Classique Legend has won the richest race in Australia, the $15 million The Everest at Royal Randwick, while Verry Elleegant was victorious in the Group One Caulfield Cup.
In trainer Chris Waller’s first Caulfield Cup win, Verry Elleegant held off a fast-finishing Anthony Van Dyck to take out the $5 million race, with The Chosen One in third.
Anthony Van Dyck came into the race with a big reputation as a winner of the English Derby.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained thoroughbred came rattling down the outside in the straight to challenge Verry Elleegant, who had hit the front ahead of The Chosen One with 250 to go.

NSW records no new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases
NSW has recorded no new locally acquired coronavirus infections for the second day running as more people are permitted to come together for worship, in hospitality venues and outside at gatherings.
Five new cases were uncovered in travellers in hotel quarantine, NSW Health said in a statement.
The five cases were detected after almost 13,000 tests, and were followed by another appeal for the state’s residents to seek testing if they feel unwell.
“NSW Health continues to appeal to the community to come forward for testing right away if anyone has even the mildest of symptoms like a runny nose or scratchy throat, cough, fever or other symptoms that could be COVID-19,” Dr Stephen Corbett said in a statement.

New South Wales has recorded no locally acquired cases of coronavirus for the second consecutive day.
Five infections were diagnosed in travellers in hotel quarantine in the 24-hour reporting period to 8pm Friday.
It also marks the ninth consecutive day without a case being under investigation – meaning all cases that were acquired locally were linked to a known cluster.
