COVID-19 has proved no obstacle to Sydney’s prestige market this spring, with a ramshackle Vaucluse home selling for $16.6m — about $6m above reserve — at auction today.

Sotheby’s agent Harriet France had 18 registered bidders and six fight for the five-bedroom home at 41 Vaucluse Road of Janis Waite, wife of the late printer Bill Waite.

With panoramic views of the harbour, city skyline, Bridge and Opera House from its beautiful old formal lounge room, it’s across the road from a more modern home with pool and tennis court that sold to 26-year-old Junlin Lan and his partner Monica…
