It’s that time of year again the City of Sydney is putting free trees up for grabs. But in 2021, the giveaway will look a little different than usual, adjusting with the times.

Instead of inviting locals to a certain place on one specific date to pick up trees — to encourage residents to help reach the government target to increase the urban canopy by 50 percent by 2030, and to plant one million new trees by 2022 — the City of Sydney is moving things online. So, first you need to register, with trees available for 13,500 households in Greater Sydney’s 33 Local Government Areas.

At 9am on the first of each month, you’ll need to hop onto the City of Sydney website. That’s when the trees for that month will be listed, spanning…
